Prometheus is a film that wants very much to be more than a horror film. Sir Ridley Scott, who crafted the 1979 film Alien (from which this film is inspired), has grown as an artist in the last quarter century. It is therefore understandable then, when revisiting the universe of Alien , he would want to do more than simply make another “haunted house in space” film.  And that is the fatal flaw of Prometheus . The audiences’ expectations are wildly different from the intentions of the filmmaker. Rather than simply jettison the Alien connection and make an original film (allowing the both the filmmaker and the audience the advantage of a blank slate), the makers of Prometheus attempted to create a synthesis, attaching elements of the Alien mythos into their story. As many have heard by now, DC Comics has made a move they claimed to be bold and a huge change. They made GL gay. Not Hal Jordan. They turned the alternate universe Green Lantern, Alan Scott, gay. Cheap move. All hype, no substance. It made me sick. Not only that, but it opens huge plot holes. If Alan Scott is gay, where did Jade and Obsidian come from? This was a gimmick just to jump on the publicity of Obama supporting gay marriage. Gay for the sale of being gay is OFFENSIVE. Make it believable. Make it make sense. Make it MEAN something. If I were going to turn any DC character gay, it WOULD be a GL. But not Alan Scott. Here's my opinion. I want to say, first and foremost, this is NOT a bash on homosexuals. I fully support the freedom to choose whom you love, have sex with, and marry. I have gay friends. I have gay family members. The first date my wife and I went on was to a drag show to support a friend of mine who was performing. Secondly, but I feel in context of this forum ...

So we've got two more big Superhero movies coming out. The Spider-Man reboot. And! The Dark Knight Rises. I'm not anywhere near as excited about these two as I have been The Avengers. But I've been hearing all kinda of "Batman's gonna kick Spider-Man's ass!" and "Batman's gonna blow The Avengers out of the water!" And I'm here to throw in my 2cents. No way in hell is Batman gonna reach the Avengers. But I will argue over Spider-Man. Spider-Man is a far more kid-friendly franchise than this Batman trilogy has been. Spider-Man has seen a lot more advertising than DKR has. DKR will forever be the sequel to Heath Ledger's last movie. It might do better than the Crow sequels, but will suffer from the same stigmas. It will forever be compared to the one before it, Bane will forever be measured up against Joker, and it will always been seen lacking. Unless the guy playing Bane bites it before the movie releases. DKR looks very serious, brood...

200 MILLION DOLLAR WEEKEND According to Box Office Mojo, The Avengers made $200 million in its opening weekend. Wow. Just...wow.

Yeah, this film is going to rock. As much as I am looking forward to "The Avengers", this is my must-see "comic-book" movie of the year (feel free to note the absence of a certain web-slinger from this conversation; that forthcoming abomination deserves its own post). Nolan tackles comic-book films with a sense of seriousness and an epic scope that is unique. I don't believe the films are perfect: "Batman Begins" was a good, but not great movie, and "The Dark Knight" was about 30 minutes too long. Yet the tone of the films, the manner in which they are shot, the remarkable collection of actors come together to make them must-see viewing. I also love that Nolan is completing a trilogy and bringing his take on Batman to a close. I can't wait to see this film.
