SPOILERS: Review: Amazing X-Men #1/Longshot Saves the Marvel U #1

Amazing X-Men #1 - The Quest for Nightcrawler Writer: Jason Aaron Artist: Ed McGuinness Nightcrawler has always been one of my favorite characters since I was a child. I was saddened when he died, but anyone who's ever read more than 6 issues of X-Men, we knew he'd be back eventually. And Amazing X-Men #1 is where that happens. Nightcrawler is in Heaven, but it's just short of paradise for Kurt. He was a flirtatious swashbuckler, a man of faith and belief, and now he sits in Heaven twiddling his thumbs. He's not ready for eternal rest. He has more to do, so he feels. What he really feels, is bored. Until Dad shows up for a visit. One of Marvel's most interesting and underused villains, Azazel, attacks Heaven. Meanwhile, on the mortal coil, Angelica Jones, Firestar, shows up at the Jean Grey School as their new teacher. Nervous, anxious, and unsure of what to expect, Angelica's met with the usual chaos and disorder that follows Wolverine's X-Men where ever th...

SPOILERS: Review: Guardians of the Galaxy #7/Red Hood and The Outlaws # 24

Hey, Geeks and Geekettes! It's Mid-Week-Mini-Christmas, also known as Comic Book Wednesday, and that means COMIC REVIEWS!!! This week we'll be focusing on my two favorites, Guardians of the Galaxy and Red Hood and The Outlaws, the latter of which comes back after a month away while DC did their Villains Month; we'll talk about that some. Now then! ON TO THE REVIEWS!! Guardians of the Galaxy is probably my favorite comic out right now, for a number of reasons. Love or hate Bendis, he's on a mission; to give a comic that ties into Infinity, but also prepares new and old readers alike for the upcoming movie based on this title. Are the characters exactly like the movie? No, yet neither are they exactly like we've seen before. This title also introduces Angela, formerly of Image comics, and her return to the comic book page. I love her dynamic with the team and the possibilities she presents if she stays in the title, and as future story arc ads suggest, she does. This ...

SPOILERS: Review: Infinity Hiest #1/Guardians of the Galaxy #6 - Lyesmith

Alright, Geeks and Geekettes, it's Comic Book Wednesday and that means comic reviews! Today we've got two reviews, the new Infinity - Heist tie-in and the long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy #6! As always, be sure to check out our Facebook Fanpage at www.facebook.com/GeekinPodcast and follow us on Twitter @Geekin_Podcast for all the coolest news, pictures, freebies and assorted geekery! Now on to the reviews! Writer: Frank Tieri Artist: Barrionuevo Infinity Heist was an interesting story. It follows Blizzard and Whirlwind, two c-list villains, on their adventure trying to take advantage of the Avengers being in space. It's a fun story! They're bumbling idiots who just can't catch a break. They break into the Wakanda Bank to steal supposed diamonds and gold, but Spymaster has beat them to it. He waits in an empty vault, offering to let them in on an even bigger score... What this comic does to irritate the crap out of me, is changes artist style in the middle of the...

SPOILERS: Review: X-Men BotA #1 & Infinity #2 - Lyesmith

Image
Just like with the DC reviews earlier, this week I'll be reviewing two Marvel comics. These focus one the two big events going on in Marvel right now; X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1 and Infinity #2. I love nothing but good things to say about Battle of the Atom. It had some moments that made me grin and made me realize how much I'm ready for all this crap to be over with and for the family to patch things up again. Kitty takes the original X-Kiddos out on a routine new-mutant sighting. Things don't go exactly as planned and Scott and his X-Men show up just in time to back up Kitty's group. I loved it. Kitty and Scott don't picker. They don't make snotty comments. They just get shit under control. It was actually pretty heart warming. As a converted Cyclops fan, this issue made my heart stop for a moment. But over all sets us up for a pretty cool little event. Though it does leave me wondering how the hell they're going to explain it. Seems ALL the X-Men are do...

SPOILERS: Review: Nova #7 - Lyesmith

Image
Welcome back, Geeks! Now we've got our review for Nove #7, giving us our Marvel Cosmic fix. It's not Guardians of the Galaxy, but it's a nice appetizer to hold us over. Remember to check out the fanpage over at www.facebook.com/GeekinPodcast for news, pictures, assorted geekery, and soon to spotlight geeky freebies from across the internet!    I don't normally share whole-pages from comics, but this was too good NOT to.    And THERE'S all you need to know about this comic to decide if you want to pick it up. That's it. If that doesn't make you want to run out and buy this comic book, then I don't know what will. This is another FUN comic. It doesn't take itself too seriously. I usually hate teen superheroes, especially in their own titles. (Just wait for the next Young Avengers. I'll review that and get all KINDS of hate my way...) And I really didn't think I was going to enjoy Nova, but I really have.    This issue kinds Nova trying to find ...

SPOILERS: Review: Infinity #1/Weekly Recap - Lyesmith

Image
It's Wednesday and time for your weekly reviews again! Boy, it's been a busy week, so before we get into our first review, let's recap the week. My review for Cyberforce #5 was noticed and retweeted by the lovely Bridget Silvestri @B_Silvestri), wife of none other than Marc Silvestri (@Marc_Silvestri), comic book creator, writer, artist, and top-cow over at Top Cow comics (@TopCow), whom also retweeted our review of his comic. Needless to stay, there was swooning and fainting and maybe more than a little bragging in the Geekin' camp this past week. If you're not following us on Twitter, you should be! Get out there and give us a shout! @Geekin_Podcast The Facebook fanpage (Which, of course, you have liked, right?) is starting to grow and become a lot busier; we've had a huge jump this week (broke 75 likes!). So if you haven't shared us with all your friends and family, head out to www.facebook.com/GeekinPodcast for news, artwork, updates on our favorite page...

Lyesmith: Comic Review #3

Image
Welcome to the third comic review! Today I'm going to try to focus a little more on Marvel, but then it's right back into DC! They've really had my attention lately with the New 52.   First of all, I've always been a Marvel guy. I grew up on X-Men and the various X-Titles and understood the Summers Family Tree before I could do multiplication. But this past few months, I've seen barely anything come out of Marvel that I've enjoyed, and that saddens me a great deal. That being said, I'm going to do a review of two series, both of which I love, but one of which I'm not currently liking. Ready? Too bad.           Journey Into Mystery Kieron Gillen is a literary god. Everything he's done with this series has had me giddy to read the next issue. I love his writing style, how he's made these characters REAL, and he's taking Loki in a direction no ever has before. He's ranking up there with Neil Giaman, Geoff Johns, R.A. Jones, Christopher Yost ...
