SPOILERS: Review: Infinity #1/Weekly Recap - Lyesmith
It's Wednesday and time for your weekly reviews again! Boy, it's been a busy week, so before we get into our first review, let's recap the week.

Heeeerrrreeee's THANOS![/caption]
Obviously a set-up comic for their next big event. Now I'll be honest, I'm the first to roll my eyes at big event lately, they're just too much. They span too many titles and they don't seem to matter much, as the next big event is just around the corner. However, this one has be a bit excited. As you may have noticed, I'm on a huge Guardians of the Galaxy kick and I can't seem to get enough of the Marvel Cosmic Universe. This seems geared towards giving us more of that. Looks to be even more universe encompassing than Annihilation and War of Kings was, as it's pulling even more characters from Earth into the story.
I won't ruin this one too much for you, but the big bad behind this event is Thanos, who seems to be Marvel's go-to bad guy this year. While there wasn't any sign of the Guardians themselves, which I found a bit odd, it did show Tony Stark back on Earth. Last GotG issue Tony was still in space and it ended with Peter Quill face to face with Thanos. So hopefully they'll explain that before the event kicks off.
[We see lots of this guy throughout the issue. Does he remind anyone else of Alexis Denisof's hooded "The Other" from The Avengers movie? Not sure if it's the same guy, but definitely the same vibe.]
The book flipped us back and forth between alien worlds and Earth, giving us pieces of the beginning of the story. Thanos is looking for something, and it seems that something is on Earth. Where else would it be, right? Very ominous and foreboding, it was actually a great set-up and a fun read. Nothing huge and excited, nothing that won't be explained in the individual issues was revealed here, I'm sure, but it was fun nonetheless. You can be sure the teams involved will be the InHumans, The Avengers, SWORD, and there was even a little cameo by a couple of the boys from New Mutants, as well as a bit from Silver Surfer. I can't imagine them NOT tying in Guardians of the Galaxy, and we might even see a little from Sif and Beta Ray Bill, seeing as they're already in space, according to Journey into Mystery.

We did get to see some more of Abyss, Ex Nihilo and Starbrand working with the Avengers, after last weeks Avengers issue ending with them joining. I'm not sure how I feel about them yet, but they seem to be a valuable resource to The Avengers so far. I suspect Starbrand to stick around, of course, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Abyss and Ex Nihilo won't be around much after this event. Just a feeling I have. I do hope Marvel has bigger plans for them and proves me wrong. But I do recommending picking up this book. It won't be one you bag and board and keep for the grandkids, but it's a fun "popcorn" book and I think those are needed every now and again.
