Zamudio I don't normally pick up completely unknown comics on a whim, but since I've been enthralled with Weird Westerns for the past month, I couldn't let this issue pass. The artwork works really well with this; matches the gritty feel of the story. It starts with a daughter watching one of her father's neighbors properly mark his grave. After her mother died, her father disappeared out west, with dreams of striking gold. The neighbor tells her the tragic tale of her father's death; ran down by Comanches, even though he took many out with him, they still overpowered him. He fought to the very end, staying alive in the hot sun long enough to tell his friend the manner in which he died. The daughter thanks him for all his kindness, and leaves. We've seen the sketches for months now. I expected it to be weird, but not this weird. First of all, this isn't actually Joker's daughter, which wildly disappointed me. I mean, we find that out pretty damn quick. I was hoping they'd drag it out, really let us think this might be his kid, let the nerd rage boil a bit; but no such luck. This week really surprised me with how many great comics started up. My two favorites have to come out of Dark Horse. I won't do many spoilers here, but I wanted the warning up, just in case. Buzzkill was the first surprise of the day. While this style of art usually turns me off to a comic, it's just not my favorite style, it fit with the story really well. And I loved their flash back scenes, taking on a more classic-comic book feel with the little dots. I'm sure those have a technical name and I just don't know it. Buzzkill is an interesting concept; a former superhero, trying to get back on his feet after doing something tragic as a hero. We may have seen that a time or two before, sure, but this hero? He gets his super powers from booze. Yeah. He's Joe Blow until he gets tanked. Then he hits like a tank. Of all the Infinity Tie Ins, I felt Avengers #19 seemed the most important, the one that moved the story forward the most, so that's what we'll be focusing on. Just like with the DC reviews earlier, this week I'll be reviewing two Marvel comics. These focus one the two big events going on in Marvel right now; X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1 and Infinity #2. I love nothing but good things to say about Battle of the Atom. It had some moments that made me grin and made me realize how much I'm ready for all this crap to be over with and for the family to patch things up again. Kitty takes the original X-Kiddos out on a routine new-mutant sighting. Things don't go exactly as planned and Scott and his X-Men show up just in time to back up Kitty's group. I loved it. Kitty and Scott don't picker. They don't make snotty comments. They just get shit under control. It was actually pretty heart warming. As a converted Cyclops fan, this issue made my heart stop for a moment. But over all sets us up for a pretty cool little event. Though it does leave me wondering how the hell they're going to explain it. Seems ALL the X-Men are do...

Happy Mid-Week-Mini-Christmas Geeks! It's that time again! Comic Book Wednesday! Today I'll do a couple of each DC and Marvel. This is pretty exciting for me, as it's VILLAINS MONTH! A month where the titles stop their regularly scheduled programing to give you an issue focused on a villain related to the title. Is it a gimmick? Hell yes. And I love a good gimmick! First up we've got Justice League Dark #23.1 - The Creeper! I'm super-excited about this one because The Creeper has always been one of my favorite DC characters and I really don't think he gets enough page-time. He's a great character that I think deserves more love and attention. The origins of the Pre-52 Creeper were originally linked to the Joker and his serum; though that was later retconned. And now they're styling him after a Oni Demon was Japanese myth. This is an origin story set up for The Creeper and if things go they way I hope they do we'll be seeing a lot more of our eerie fr...
