Hey, Geeks and Geekettes! Here's another science-meets-fantasy review. Maybe I'm in a mood this week. Black Science #1 comes to us from Image Comics Writer: Rick Remender Artist: Matteo Scalera I wasn't sure about this book till the end. It did keep me entertained the entire time, but it seemed so dark. I wasn't sure this was one I'd want to revisit. The art was great, this strange world that we're immediately thrown into instantly pops. We follow Grant Ward, apparently a scientist, as he rushes to get back to his children and return them home. As the book progresses we find that Ward found a way to move between dimensions. He's troubled by how his obsession has ruined his marriage and personal life, but the only thing that matters to him now is getting is family home safely. On the to review! Writer: Matt Hawkins Artist: Stjepan Sejic Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a pretty big Top Cow fan, and a pretty big Aphrodite IX fan. Hawkins and Sejic's relaunch of the title has not disappointed and as we flow into the next story arc they turn up the notch just a little. I've done a review on this book before, but with the new story arc starting, I felt it necessary to do a follow-up. Voice in the Dark #1 By  Larime Taylor www.facebook.com/larime.taylor @TopCow                            As a big fan of Top Cow and their crew, I've been seeing this comic advertised for weeks now. I'm not sure what I was expecting out of this comic, but I ended up pleasantly surprised. If I had to liken it to other piece of work, I think I would say it's a little Dexter and a little A Scanner Darkly . Now I say A Scanner Darkly to use as an example in tone. I could easily see this in the same format, kind of a moving graphic novel movie, but that's still not where it compares for me. How can I put this... most times when I read comics, there's a background noise. Kind of like a soundtrack. A constant buzz of sound. What Taylor did here was give us a story where the only background noise was the main character's narration.                ...

This is probably one the best ways to introduce a new book with a character this crazy. Each artist gets at least a page and it was wonderfully done. For the first time in a long time, I've found a character who just HAPPENS to be gay. It's not his entire identity. They didn't make a big fanfare about it. In fact, even in the book, the response to the character's declarative over his sexuality is "I don't care. What does this have to do with this?" Emma Frost , I love you all over again. Mr. Benjamin Deeds , I adore you as well, sir. I am excited to learn more about this guy, I am excited to see more from him, and I love this book. Bendis handled this BEAUTIFULLY. Hey, Geek and Geekettes! It's time for the DC side of Mid-Week Mini-Christmas, also known as Comic Book Wednesday! Let's dive into those reviews! Constantine #8 Writer: Ray Fawkes Artist: ACO This ending of this book irritated by crap out of me. But we'll get to that. I love the storyline they've got going for Constantine, and I wish they'd leave it kind of separate, on the side, not really tie in the direct story to anything else. The artwork isn't my favorite this issue, but I think it fits with the story, so it works. The story picks up where the last one left off, which is the way I like it. Constantine fighting with Mr. E while Sargon looks on, unable to stop Mr. E, but neither is she willing to help Constantine - at least not directly. She leaves a sword called the Moonblade where Constantine can get to it, giving him the edge he needs to defeat Mr. E. DeMatteis Artist: Fernando Blanco Phantom Stranger is a part of the more "magic centered" side of DC Comics, along with Justice League Dark, it has more of a Vertigo feel to it, but this time around, with the New 52 reboot, they're grounding this side of the DCU in more connection with everything else. Getting back into role-playing recently myself, I've decided to help my older children roll up 3.5 D&D characters. They're ages 9, 7, and 5. This may seem a little young on the bottom end there, but here's my reasoning on this. I've started role-playing again with a group every weekend. My 7 year old son has expressed an interest and been asking lots of questions. I was 8 when I started playing. My Mom worked at my Uncle's comic shop, and they hosted games at our house on the weekends for as long as I could remember. Finally, after months and months of BEGGING, they let me start gaming with them. I couldn't stay up past my bedtime, one of my "uncles" (read: friend of the family. I had more uncles from that comic shop than any one kid should ever have uncles.) would take over my character. Okay, that's half a lie. I'd usually get myself killed well before then.
