SPOILERS: Review: Aphrodite IX #6 @TopCow @TopCowMatt @StjepanSejic

Hey, Geeks and Geekettes! It's Mid-Week Mini-Christmas, also known as Comic Book Wednesday! Today we're gonna do Aphrodite IX #6, but stay tuned for Black Science #1 coming up next! Now then... On the to review!

Writer: Matt Hawkins
Artist: Stjepan Sejic

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a pretty big Top Cow fan, and a pretty big Aphrodite IX fan. Hawkins and Sejic's relaunch of the title has not disappointed and as we flow into the next story arc they turn up the notch just a little. I've done a review on this book before, but with the new story arc starting, I felt it necessary to do a follow-up.

I'm excited for this book; we've gotten the set-up out of the way, we know who we're dealing with and what she's looking for. "Now we get down to the tacks and the brass." Aphrodite IX is being hunted by Gen mercenaries, whom in true Stjepan Sejic fashion are looking pretty bad ass, when she's also discovered by a group of "sand ninjas"  (her words) that are actually being led (that's an assumption. The actual hierarchy of this group has yet to be revealed.) Aphrodite XV. That's Fifteen to Aphrodite IX's Nine, for those who aren't familiar with roman numerals.
While Aphrodite kicks some serious butt to prove she is who she appears to be, The Gen, lead by Marcus, are galvanized by his new-found religious fervor.  Whether he's become a true-believer, or is just using his people's spiritual passion to his advantage is not yet certain. Marcus is a smart guy and he wants to do what's best for his people, and that's to get the Citizens of Speros off his back - and that means a serious assault and the death of many cybernetically enhanced humans.

Stjepan Sejic's art takes an interesting turn in this one. I've been a fan of his for a while now, and it's fun to see him do something a little different. Matt Hawkins, the writer, explains in the back of the book (another of his Science Class sections - it's unique to Matt's books and I'm thoroughly entertained by them both here and in Think Tank. You DID read the review for Think Tank, right?) that they felt the art and the text style weren't matching up, so Sejic did a little different style this time. It's a wonderful change of pace, keeping Sejic's essence and fluid feel of his art while changing it up a little. Hawkins' writing is some of my favorite around right now. For such a science-centered guy, he's bringing a wonderful fantasy world to life. A great mix of science and fantasy.

So Aphrodite IX's story is just hitting it's stride, and it's leaving me very excited to see what comes next, and what the creative team decides to do with this world they're expanding on. Definitely pick it up. I'll give it....

A solid 5 out of 5 Elite Cattle. Get it? 'Cause it's from Top Cow? You got a better rating system? Share with me in the comments below or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter!

In the mean time, here's some of Aphrodite EYE-EX EYE-CANDY! Ooooh, I'm so punny!

KEEP GEEKIN'!
