Here's another comic I'm loving to death. The art is dark, grungy, with a bright life just under the surface. It gives a different edge to the characters, while still staying true to who they are. The story's amazing, I find myself glued to every page. The writing has got this dry, quick wit and I love the dialogue between the older Superman and Batman. I love banter. (BanterBanterBanter! Foamy the Squirrel, anybody?) But I find myself thinking that not much happened this issue. Lacked some meat! The Batmans and Supermans tussled some more, you got a little more back story between Older Bruce and Clark via a cute flashback between the two as young boys. To sum the whole issue up; Darkseid is coming. The only thing that can stop him is this crystal of unknown origin. They leave you with the impression that only one version of the Batman/Superman teams can survive this by using the crystal.

Kaiyo, the Chaos-Bringer, as Darkseid refers to her, asks the heroes "Which of you will save his world? Which of you will die? Which of you will destroy this glorious weapon-- --and which of you will seize it?" You get the impression throughout the book that Kaiyo is playing a larger game here. This crystal may not be all she's letting on that it is. Or maybe it is, and she's playing the heroes against each other to get the outcome she wants by planting these seeds of doubt between them. I'm sure it'll become clearer next issue. This is one that I didn't expect to enjoy, but I've actually had a blast with.

If you're already a fan of this series, you'll really enjoy this book, but if you haven't read the first two issues yet, I suggest you do. I expect this comic to continue being this much fun for while to come.

My favorite couple of pages from the book. Check this out:

"That 'S' doesn't stands for 'Hope', huh?" - brilliant... love it!
